More and more Spanish businesses work with French clients and suppliers. When everything goes to plan, goods travel through the usual channels. But when something urgent comes up, many do not know who to call: the courier will not take the item and nobody commits to a time.

When urgency with France comes up
The most common cases are a part or spare that has stopped a production line in France, samples or prototypes that must arrive before a meeting, material for a trade fair in Lyon, Paris or Montpellier, restocking for a client who has run out, and equipment for a film production.
In all of them the problem is the same: the deadline is shorter than the usual channels allow and the cargo does not always fit a parcel service.
Dedicated or courier: how to choose
No option is better in the abstract; it depends on the cargo and the deadline.
| Service | Timing | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Courier or parcel | Delivery time slots | Small, light items with no critical delivery time |
| Dedicated transport | Direct, at an agreed time | Urgent, bulky or delicate cargo, delivery in a time window |
Realistic journey times from Barcelona
These are direct driving times from Barcelona. Add loading, unloading and waiting time at the destination.
| Destination | Distance | Driving |
|---|---|---|
| Barcelona – Perpignan | 200 km | about 2 h 15 |
| Barcelona – Montpellier | 340 km | about 3 h 30 |
| Barcelona – Toulouse | 390 km | about 4 h 15 |
| Barcelona – Marseille | 510 km | about 5 h 30 |
| Barcelona – Lyon | 640 km | about 6 h 45 |
| Barcelona – Paris | 1030 km | about 10 h 30 |
From Girona to Perpignan it is about 110 km, a little over an hour and a quarter. For distant destinations such as Paris, the driver's mandatory rest is added, so we confirm the timing when we review the route.
Documents and customs between Spain and France
Spain and France are both in the European Union: for general goods there is no customs procedure at the border.
International road transport is documented with a CMR consignment note. To prepare it we need the sender and recipient with exact addresses, a description of the goods, the number of packages or pallets, the weight and an approximate value. Have the delivery note or invoice at hand.
Many logistics platforms in France require an appointment for delivery. If your customer needs one, tell us the time window and who arranges it.
Which vehicle is used
For France we use an L3/L4 van (2–3 Euro pallets, up to 1,300 kg of payload) and a 3,500 kg box truck with a tail lift (up to 8 Euro pallets and 1,000 kg of cargo). If your cargo needs more capacity, ask us before booking.
What to send to get a quote
- Exact pickup and delivery addresses, with postcodes.
- What the cargo is, how many items or pallets, total weight and weight per item.
- Dimensions of the largest item.
- The date and time it can be collected and the delivery deadline.
- A contact person and phone number at origin and destination.
- Whether there is a loading dock or forklift at both ends and whether a tail lift is needed.
- Approximate value of the goods, so we can review insurance cover.
Common mistakes when ordering an urgent shipment to France
- Giving only the destination city and not the exact address.
- Not mentioning weight or dimensions until the last moment.
- Forgetting the delivery appointment at the receiving platform.
- Not giving a contact at the destination who can receive the driver.
- Assuming "today" means delivery today when the destination is many hours away.
