A Barcelona delivery does not have to interrupt the whole route
A few pallets or a small shipment can create a disproportionate detour for an international truck. The recipient may be away from the main route, have limited access for an articulated vehicle, or accept deliveries only during a particular time window.
If your route from France, Germany or elsewhere in Europe passes the Barcelona area on the way to another Spanish destination or Portugal, we can assess whether a local handover makes sense. You transfer the agreed consignment to our vehicle; we handle the final delivery. Once the handover is complete, your truck continues its route.
This is a service for hauliers, freight forwarders and dispatchers who need a local transport partner. The transfer is planned around the actual route and receiving address, rather than assuming the driver should enter central Barcelona.
When a truck-to-vehicle transfer is useful
- A small delivery within a larger load: one customer’s goods need to leave the truck near Barcelona while the rest travel onwards.
- Difficult final access: a smaller vehicle may be more suitable for the customer’s premises, subject to the address and access conditions.
- A delivery window that does not match your transit time: tell us both times so we can assess a feasible arrangement before booking.
- A local detour you want to avoid: compare the handover and local delivery cost with the time and distance of sending the main truck to the customer.
How we organise the handover
- Send the route and cargo details. Include the transit date, ETA near Barcelona, final delivery address and the recipient’s delivery window.
- Agree a suitable meeting point. We review access for both vehicles, room to manoeuvre and the conditions for loading. The location must allow the planned activity; a convenient pin on a map is not enough.
- Confirm the vehicle and handling equipment. We need to know how the goods can be reached inside the trailer, whether rear or side access is required and what equipment is available at both ends.
- Complete the cargo handover. Agree which packages or pallets are being transferred, their condition and the paperwork needed for the onward delivery.
- Continue the main journey. Our vehicle takes the consignment to the agreed customer address. We agree the recipient contact and delivery confirmation requirements when arranging the service.

Send your route and ETA together with the cargo details. We will check the transfer and final delivery before confirming availability.

The photograph shows a refrigerator we transported for an ALDI store, with the side of the vehicle open. It illustrates the kind of bulky equipment for which side access is worth assessing alongside the vehicle’s internal dimensions and payload.

What does side access offer?
Opening the side of a curtainside vehicle gives access to goods from the side and can make it easier to position or remove bulky items. Where conditions allow, it can also provide access for a forklift. The clear opening, pillars, floor height and available space alongside the vehicle need to be checked before the job is assigned.
Express loading starts with preparation
For an express collection, send photographs, length, width, height, weight and the equipment available for loading and unloading. We confirm whether side opening, rear access, a forklift or a tail lift is needed, together with the schedule and vehicle availability. Preparing those details helps coordinate the pickup without improvising on arrival.
For refrigerators and other equipment, we also need to know the handling points, the manufacturer’s specified transport position and how the unit will be protected and secured. This is transport of the refrigerator as cargo, rather than a temperature-controlled food delivery service.
Choosing the right vehicle for the final delivery
The number of pallets is only part of the decision. Total weight, individual pallet weight, dimensions and loading equipment determine which vehicle can do the job.
- L3/L4 van: 2–3 Euro pallets depending on the vehicle, with up to 1,300 kg payload.
- Box vehicle with tail lift: space for up to 8 Euro pallets, up to 1,000 kg payload and a tail-lift capacity of 700 kg.
- 12-tonne rigid truck: space for up to 18 Euro pallets, up to 5,000 kg payload and a 1,500 kg tail lift.
- 18-tonne rigid truck: space for up to 18 Euro pallets, up to 9,000 kg payload and a 2,000 kg tail lift.
These are separate maximum limits, not a promise that every pallet load fits. For example, two pallets with a combined weight of 1,200 kg exceed the box vehicle’s 1,000 kg payload even though there is space for them. The tail-lift assessment also needs to account for the load, handling equipment and the lift’s operating limits. A tail lift alone does not establish that goods can be transferred directly between two vehicles at different heights.
See our vehicle selection guide for dimensions and capacity comparisons, or the pallet collection checklist to prepare your shipment.
What to send for a transfer quote
- Your planned route, transit date and ETA near Barcelona.
- The final delivery address, postcode and recipient’s time window.
- Number of pallets or packages, dimensions of each unit and whether they can be stacked.
- Gross weight of each unit and total consignment weight.
- Description and photos of the goods, including their position inside the trailer.
- Rear or side unloading requirements, forklift availability and any need for a tail lift or pallet truck.
- Access restrictions at the destination and the dispatcher, driver and recipient contacts needed for coordination.
- Any special handling, documentation or delivery confirmation requirements.
What affects the price?
The quote depends on the vehicle, meeting point, distance to the customer, transfer and unloading time, schedule and equipment required. Waiting time or a change to the agreed route or delivery window can also affect the service. We confirm the scope, price and applicable extras before booking; a photograph alone is not enough for a firm quote.
Questions from drivers and dispatchers
Can you collect just one pallet from our trailer?
Yes, we can assess a single-pallet transfer. Send its dimensions and gross weight, where it sits in the trailer and how it can be unloaded. The vehicle and transfer method must fit the actual load.
Do we have to drive into Barcelona city?
Not necessarily. We agree the meeting point around your route and the delivery destination. Access, space and permission to carry out the transfer must be confirmed before either vehicle arrives.
Can our truck leave while you finish the local delivery?
That is the purpose of the service: after the agreed handover is completed, your driver can continue the main route while our vehicle handles the final delivery.
Can you meet us immediately?
Contact us with your current ETA. Availability depends on the vehicle, location, cargo and schedule; the collection is confirmed individually. If the ETA changes, let us know so we can review the arrangement.
Is this the same as warehouse cross-docking?
This article describes a coordinated transfer from a transit truck to a delivery vehicle. A warehouse, storage period or loading dock is not automatically included. Tell us if the cargo needs to wait before delivery so we can assess that separately.
